Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Smart Home Buddy website and services. By booking a consultation, making a payment, or using any of our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.
1. About Smart Home Buddy
Smart Home Buddy is a home automation setup, consulting, and integration service operated by Jake Hodges in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We help residential clients connect, configure, and automate smart home devices including but not limited to: smart lighting, locks, cameras, thermostats, sprinklers, garage door openers, robot vacuums, TV streaming, and Wi-Fi networks.
2. Services
Smart Home Buddy provides in-home consultation and setup services on a time-and-materials basis. Our current rates are:
- $100.00 for the first hour of service
- $75.00 for each additional hour of service
A time estimate will be provided prior to beginning work whenever reasonably possible. Final charges are based on actual time spent. We reserve the right to update our rates with reasonable advance notice.
We do not guarantee that all smart home devices or platforms will be compatible with each other or function as expected in every environment. Our services are provided on a best-effort basis.
3. Booking & Appointments
Booking a consultation through our website or by phone does not constitute a binding contract until confirmed by a Smart Home Buddy team member. We will contact you within 24 hours of receiving your request to confirm availability and scheduling.
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to cancel or be present for a scheduled appointment may result in a cancellation fee of up to one hour of service at the standard rate.
4. Payment Terms
Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise agreed in writing. We accept payment via:
- Credit or debit card (processed securely through Stripe)
- Online payment through our website
- Other methods as agreed upon at time of service
All online payments are processed through Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize Smart Home Buddy to charge you for services rendered. Invoices are provided upon request.
5. Client Responsibilities
- Ensure a Smart Home Buddy team member has reasonable access to the areas of the home where work is to be performed
- Provide accurate information about existing devices, networks, and account credentials needed for setup
- Ensure the home's Wi-Fi network is operational prior to the appointment (unless Wi-Fi setup is part of the service requested)
- Be present or have a responsible adult (18+) present during all service visits
- Notify us of any known issues, constraints, or sensitivities (pets, security systems, etc.) prior to the visit
6. Third-Party Products & Platforms
Smart Home Buddy works with third-party smart home devices, platforms, and services including but not limited to Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Ring, Nest, Rachio, Lutron, and others. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for any of these third-party products or platforms.
We are not responsible for:
- Product malfunctions, defects, or compatibility issues outside our control
- Changes made by third-party platforms to their apps, APIs, or services
- Any service interruptions caused by internet outages, power failures, or hardware failure
- Any fees, subscriptions, or charges associated with third-party platforms or services
7. Credential Storage Consent
If you choose to allow Smart Home Buddy to store login credentials for your smart home accounts and devices, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You are voluntarily providing this information to facilitate future service visits
- Credentials are stored securely and accessed only by authorized Smart Home Buddy personnel
- You may request deletion of your stored credentials at any time
- Smart Home Buddy is not liable for any unauthorized access resulting from a breach beyond our reasonable control
8. Limitation of Liability
Smart Home Buddy's total liability for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the total amount paid by the client for the specific service giving rise to the claim.
Smart Home Buddy is not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Loss of data, including smart home settings, device configurations, or account information
- Damage to devices caused by pre-existing defects, incompatibility, or manufacturer issues
- Any outcome resulting from client-provided inaccurate information
9. Warranty Disclaimer
Our services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that smart home devices or automations will operate without interruption or error. All hardware and software warranties, if any, are provided solely by the respective manufacturers.
10. Intellectual Property
Any custom automation scripts, routines, or configurations created by Smart Home Buddy for a client are intended for that client's personal use. Smart Home Buddy retains the right to use general methodologies, knowledge, and approaches in serving other clients.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.
12. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted on our website with a new effective date. Continued use of our services following any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
